Tennis String | About this Site

A good choice of tennis string can improve a game, while a poor choice can make for quite an unhappy one. That said, making the choice that is right for you can be quite difficult, especially if a person is new to the game of tennis, and unfamiliar with the alternatives.

For example, what kind of tennis string will you go for? Natural gut, for better power and control? Synthetic gut, because it is cheaper and more durable? Nylon gut, for greater spin control? Kevlar gut, for extreme durability? Or maybe polyester gut, or a hybrid combination of two strings, or something else?

What about tennis string gauge? 15? 15L? 16? 16L? 17? A higher gauge for better feel and more spin? Or a lower gauge for more durability and a longer lifespan?

How will you string your tennis racquet? Will you use the usual criss cross horizontal vertical setup? Will you go with a double strung racquet? Will you use one string or two? Two identical strings or different ones? What knot will be used to tie off the tennis string?

What about tension? How many pounds of tension will be applied? What amount is recommended by your tennis racquet manufacturer? Will you stay within the recommended range? Higher tension for more control? Lower tension for more power? Somewhere in between?

How often will you have your tennis racquet restrung? Only when the string breaks? Or will you attempt to prevent such breakage by restringing regularly?

Quite a number of decisions to make here. It is hoped that with this tennis string blog, some help will be provided with those choices.
